Theraputic Benefits
The Benefits of Horseback Therapy
As a horse moves, it naturally sways from side-to-side, and this movement challenges the rider's entire body to learn to keep time with this gentle motion. As a result, our patients experience a wide range of physical benefits from horseback therapy, including increased motor skills, better balance and coordination, and increased muscle strength and range of overall motion. The psychological benefits are also noteworthy. Participants experience increases in motivation, decreased agitation and frustration, and a new found ability to take a risk, which builds confidence and pride.
A Sense of Belonging
The program has proven through its success what a positive impact that grooming, handling, and riding horses can have on a child or adult in need. All of our participants, no matter their level of functionality, experience a sense of belonging and caregiving to our horses, who quickly become their friends.
