With every smile on our students’ faces we know we’re changing their lives for the better.

Volunteers are the heart of our program! We have limited paid staff, so we rely heavily on the generosity of our volunteers. We always need additional volunteers. Whether you love horses, enjoy working with disabled children or simply want to give back, we need you!

Please call us at 843-849-0964 or email Catherine Tallman at ctallman@reinandshine.org to learn more about volunteering at Rein and Shine.

Volunteer Handbook

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Volunteering with our Therapeutic Riding Program as a horse handler or side walker. We ask all therapeutic lesson volunteers be available the same time and day each week.

  • Horse handlers are responsible for preparing the horse before the class, so experience with horses is preferred. Side walkers do not necessarily need previous experience with horses, but should be prepared to provide physical and emotional help to the students during their lesson.

  • All lesson volunteers go through a general orientation and training sessions. They are introduced to the barn and other facilities, informed of barn rules, policies and procedures. Volunteers will shadow a therapeutic lesson to learn the proper positions for side walking.

  • Equine Program volunteers work directly with barn staff to help feed and care for the horses and the facility. Volunteers in the equine program should be willing to commit to a specified, consistent period of time each week and must first attend a general volunteer orientation and training session.
